NME: which of the bands (on the curiosa tour) is the closest in spirit to The Cure?
Robert Smith: i'm kind of prejudiced towards Mogwai because they are just my favourite band and have been since i heard 'young team' in 1997. i mean, the weird thing is, Mogwai have inspired me. we'd come off a bad year in '96, we'd done an album called 'wild mood swings' and got a really weird mix of feedback from fans and critics. i had one of those moments when you think 'why am i still doing this?' and then when i listened to the Mogwai album it suddenly clicked in me that what i do is make music and i'd kinda forgotten that.
